No Apes
I had a meeting yesterday with a recruiting agency that has an office in the Empire State Building. The impressive-sounding address was actually a little close and dingy on the inside.
I was left alone in a conference room for ten minutes and took the opportunity to inspect the outside for giant apes. Alas, there was not so much as a chimpanzee.
Emma at Work
Emma often likes to go on-line during the afternoon. She doesn't always remember to turn the machine off when she's finished, although sometimes she does. When she forgets, I frequently find that she's been using programs I didn't even know the computer had. So far she shows no interest in starting her own blog.
September 11th
Every year there are commemorative activities at "ground zero", a short walk from our current address. This year there is a light sculpture set up across from our window, that evokes the two towers, and perhaps unintentionally but owing to the low cloud, the disaster as well.
Another Fire
And here we thought it was just Buffalo that was always on fire somewhere. It seems New York has the same problem. There are always sirens, so it takes an unusual racket to make me look outside. But when I was drawn to the window this afternoon, it was too see another smoke plume, this time from the building just across the avenue.
There were no visible flames this time and they had it out pretty quickly. But we do plan to be in this neighbourhood for a while, so I trust this was just some kind of fluke.
Exploring the Neighbourhoods
We're spending spare time on the weekends exploring the different Manhattan neighbourhoods. We covered some of Greenwich Village this weekend, stopping for Margaritas on the way home.
